Brother (based on the painting Nighthawks by Edward Hopper)
I sit at Phillies with Gray
It's dark and almost midnight
All is quiet except for the sound
Of the coffee being made
And the quiet mumbling
Of the handsome man
Who is sitting across the way
From me and Gray
Then the question finally comes out
"So why'd you do it?"
I get no answer from Gray
And the handsome man
Who is sitting across the way
Turns his head up to look at me
His eyes almost begging to hear
The story Gray had to tell
Earlier that day me and Gray
Walked through the park
later that night I get a call
Gray asked me to meet him at Phillies
I get there fast and sit
Gray walks in calm
But with bags hanging under
His eyes as they glow a reddish color
He sits next to me
And tells me
That the handsome man
Who is sitting across the way
Is the dead man's
Brother
